Hey Hey, I’M JAY KAY.
I started Creative Wannabe because I decided I was bad at drawing. I chose the name because it’s truly how I felt at the time, and I hoped that maybe one day if I got slightly less bad the name would become ironic. Now I work as a full-time illustrator and hand-letterer, so I guess that has happened? You tell me.
Over the past few years, I’ve worked on honing my illustration skills while working in the design and advertising industries. I’ve seen how successful campaigns come together, and watched as others fell apart. I was able to evaluate media opportunities and make strategic decisions to get creative in front of prospective customers. I truly believe that half the battle is producing amazing creative, the other half is getting people to pay attention to it. This has given me a unique eye, a strategic mind, and an extreme love for creating content that resonates with my audience.
If you ask my friends, I’m pretty sure they’ll tell you I’m a workaholic. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to just make work for clients, or make products to inspire, empower, and encourage my fellow sensitive (yet boss like and powerful) souls - so I did both! My IG is aimed at encouraging us to all love ourselves - our best selves, our happy selves, our sad selves, our hurt selves, the parts of us that feel small and ugly and weak. I feel things deeply, and I wanted to create a community where others who feel the same way can feel supported, seen, and understood.
If you hang around me enough, I’ll probably ask you to be friends with me, and my friends say I’m pretty awesome (mostly.) So please do! I answer every DM I get, so please reach out, even if it’s just to say hello. We are far less alone in this world than it sometimes feels, and it brings me so much joy connecting with every single one of you.
Creative Wannabe is my full time gig, and it wouldn’t be possible if not for each and every person who chooses to support me. From product purchases, to Patreon memberships, to the brilliant clients who make all my dreams possible - I owe you all everything. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
